There’s a lot of talk these days about the term Self Defense. It is the process of protecting yourself against someone with intentions of causing you some type of bodily harm. In the United States, most of the assault cases that go on are from very disturbed single individuals or small violent factions known as gangs. The word gang is a broad interpretation because not all gangs that attack people are street gangs.
If you feel you are in danger, obviously you have a right to protect yourself as well as your family. Many Jurisdictions allow what is called the use of Deadly Force to neutralize your attacker. If you are being tried for a crime and you want to use the Self Defense justification, you must prove what is called Legal Provocation. This means you need to prove that if you didn’t defend yourself, there would have been a great chance that you could have been seriously injured or even lost your life.
If you ever plan on taking any of the Martial Arts Styles, you’ll realize quickly that you will be trained in a lot of Self Defense Techniques. Some styles are specifically administered and taught in such a way where you can only use them to defend yourself, while other styles teach you to attack and defend yourself at the same time. In some countries it is legal to carry weapons, like firearms, knives, swords and pepper spray
which you can use to defend yourself against an unprovoked attack.
Some other countries will not allow this, and will make you obtain a license. In other cases you’re allowed to obtain and keep certain weapons without a license. Some people used improvised objects as Self Defense Weapons. For example, they’ll use an aerosol spray can or a baseball bat or a pen or pencil.
